Our Standards

At Little IA, thoughtful design is not only about how something looks. It is about what something is made from, how it is produced, and whether we would confidently place it in the hands of our own children. For this reason, we take care to select materials that are considered durable and appropriate for everyday family life. Below, you can explore the materials and standards that guide our product development.

Materials we choose

Every Little IA product begins with careful material selection.

Children interact closely with the things they use every day, so the fabrics, finishes and materials behind our designs matter deeply. Where possible, we prioritise materials that are gentle, durable and responsibly produced.

These include:

• GOTS-certified organic cotton for softness and responsible sourcing

• Food-grade materials suitable for children’s products

• 304 stainless steel for durability and safety in drinkware

• Tritan™ as a safer, long-lasting alternative to traditional plastics

• BPA-free and phthalate-free materials across applicable products

What is GOTS-certified organic cotton?

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is one of the most rigorous certifications for organic textiles worldwide. When a cotton product carries GOTS certification, it means far more than simply using organic fibres. The certification tracks the entire journey of the material - from farming and processing to manufacturing and labelling.

GOTS certification ensures:

• Cotton is grown without harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilisers
• The fibre remains traceable throughout the supply chain
Strict environmental standards are followed during processing
Factories are regularly audited
Workers are paid fair wages and operate in safe working conditions

This means the standard supports both environmental responsibility and ethical production, something we believe should always go hand in hand when creating products for families.

Why Choose Tritan™ Instead of Traditional Plastic?

For certain products where transparency and lightweight durability are important, we use Tritan™, a high-performance material developed as a safer alternative to traditional plastics. Tritan is widely used in premium drinkware and children’s products because it is:

•BPA-free and phthalate-free
• Extremely durable and shatter-resistant
• Clear like glass but far lighter and safer for children
• Odour-resistant and taste-neutral

Unlike some plastics that can degrade or cloud over time, Tritan is designed to remain clear and durable even with repeated use. This makes it particularly suitable for active children and everyday family life.

What does BPA-free and phthalate-free mean?BPA (Bisphenol A) and phthalates are chemicals that have traditionally been used in plastics to improve strength or flexibility. Over time, concerns have emerged around their potential impact on human health, particularly for children. For this reason, all Little IA products are BPA-free and phthalate-free, a standard we believe should be non-negotiable when creating for children.

What is 304 Stainless Steel?

Many Little IA drinkware products are made using 304 stainless steel, a high-quality, food-grade material widely used in kitchenware and medical equipment. We choose 304 stainless steel because it is:

•Non-toxic and food-safe
• Highly resistant to rust and corrosion
• Durable and long-lasting
• Odour and flavour neutral, meaning it does not affect what children drink

Unlike lower-grade metals, 304 stainless steel maintains its integrity even with frequent daily use, making it a trusted material for bottles and food containers.
